after osmosis is my music project exploring postrock, ambient, lofi, and glitchy textures. this site will document the process, the gear, and the evolution of the project. i'll probably include some other hobbies along the way as well.

bleep bloop

i spent a while building a 7u 104hp eurorack system, but ultimately eurorack kept pulling me toward techno and idm when what i really wanted to make was more spacious, melodic, and vibey. i kept getting pulled into endless sound design instead of finishing tracks. tuning was a constant battle, especially when trying to include my guitar. no preset recall meant every session started from scratch.

brief obsession with teenage engineering

after selling off the eurorack i moved to dedicated hardware - a teenage engineering op-xy (sequencing, synth tones, drums), tx-6 (portable mixer, effect sends), and tp-7 (multitrack recording, field recording, varispeed). i also tried a torso s-4 for granular processing and manipulating field recordings. everything was portable, and focused on finishing music instead of exploring patches.

where i am now

as great as the teenage engineering gear is, having so many pieces felt overcomplicated and excessive. it's also expensive and frankly i felt guilty looking at it all. so, the setup has simplified even further to just an elektron tonverk and my guitar rig. the tonverk is the hub - sampler, effects, looper, sequencer. everything i need to capture ideas and build tracks. i'm still learning it, but with the sampling capabilities and recent addition of the wavetable machine i'm pretty pleased.
